Trend Alert: Figurative Outdoor Chairs

August 5, 2026

Aside from a weakness for a surprising color palette here and there, I generally always go for classic, timeless design that’s on the quiet side. Which is why I’m so surprised to find myself drawn to these outdoor metal chairs with backs that are shaped like faces?! These statement pieces are definitely not demure or subtle. They are loud and full of color (without being colorful), and I think they are utterly captivating. Here are seven I’m admiring:

The &#8\2\16;M. Dupont&#8\2\17; Chair is by self-taught artist St. Naive. It&#8\2\17;s \$3,648 at The Oblist.

The Ange Armchair is fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbaljac’s interpretation of Fermob&#8\2\17;s \1900 Chair. It&#8\2\17;s available in \23 colors at Lumens; \$9\20

These His & Hers Metal Face Chairs, hand-forged in Mexico, are inspired by the iconic figurative chairs of midcentury great John Risley; \$495 each at Olive Ateliers.

When the fish trend meets the figurative chair trend. The Dorade Indoor/Outdoor Chair is \$3,9\25 at The Expert.
