Green Living: A London Home Packed to the Rafters with Houseplants

April 28, 2026

Recently spotted on The Modern House (our go-to site for U.K. real estate gawking): this astounding two-bedroom townhouse where plants rule.

The home is in a Grade II-listed converted schoolhouse that was built in 1853 and designed by Benjamin Ferrey, who was known for his Gothic Revival church architecture. And in fact, with its cathedral-like ceilings, the duplex feels ecclesiastical. Add the many, many plants and the resulting vibe is something akin to a dramatic indoor tropical forest. Here’s a peek. (And if you’d like to see more of the home, check out the listing.)

The building is constructed with Portland stone quoins and has a slate roof.

The center of the open-plan living space is a triple-height sitting area with clerestory windows and a preponderance of houseplants.
