Our judges have chosen the finalists in all eight categories of our 2017 Considered Design Awards. In the six categories open to projects in the US and Canada, your vote will choose the winners. Be sure to vote once per day, now through August 4, on both Gardenista and Remodelista.
The winners of our two United Kingdom categories will be chosen by our judges and announced on August 7. Browse below to see the five finalist projects in the best Amateur UK Garden category.
Lakeland Garden Project
Above: Sandra Meyer entered her Lakeland Garden in Grange-over-Sands, England, which was chosen as a finalist by guest judge Rita Konig, who said, “I love the use of color in this garden; it is so bold and used to such tremendous effect. I also think this is a very well laid out space and I like the mixture of materials and how they work together.”
An Artist’s Farmhouse Country Garden Project
Above: Bev Horsley entered An Artist’s Farmhouse Country Garden in Shrewsbury, England, chosen as a finalist by Rita Konig, who said: “I think this is a really pretty garden; I love the black tomatoes, the roses, the pond, those daisies in the paving. It is really very pretty and English.”
Life in a Bubble Project
Above: G. Wainwright in Bideford, England, entered Life in a Bubble, a project chosen as a finalist by Gardenista editor Michelle Slatalla: “At Gardenista we have a very expansive definition of what a garden is and this project is a good example: With no usable outdoor space, it’s still possible to surround oneself with living, breathing greenery. The suspended air plants create serenity and peace against the neutral gray backdrop of the bedroom walls.”
A Modest Modern Garden Project
Above: Tricia Lyon entered A Modest Modern Garden on the Edge of the Lake District in Kendal, England, chosen by Michelle Slatalla: “The terraced beds are a clever solution to create more space for colorful flowers. Instead of fighting the steep slope, a stairway welcomes visitors to view the garden beds from different levels.”
Urban Garden Crystal Palace Project
Above: Nyig Tin submitted Urban Garden Crystal Palace in London, chosen by Rita Konig, who said: “I think it is a great use of a small space, and I love the layout and planting.”
Don’t forget to vote once per day in the non-UK contest categories on both Gardenista and Remodelista, now through August 4.
