Holiday at Home, Charleston Edition

Christine Chang Hanway April 08, 2013

Here’s a thought: This summer, avoid the stress of travel by creating a holiday vibe at home so great that you’ll never have the need to get away from it all. Having a swimming pool and cabana will help, of course:

If we were in such a position, we would be tempted to create a carbon copy of this pool pavilion in Charleston, South Carolina, designed by Heather A. Wilson Architect with interiors by Jen Langston.

Above: The house and cabana wrap around the pool. Architect Wilson designed the space for clients who wanted to trade in their classic bungalow in the Old Village for a more relaxing and open environment for their young family.

Above: The outdoor bathroom and shower link two wings of the house.

Above: Paddock style doors to the bathroom and shower lend an island feel to the setup.

Above: Ceiling fans, an outdoor fireplace, and a daybed suspended from the ceiling all play a part in creating a holiday vibe in this poolside cabana.

Above: The outdoor kitchen ranks up there with the outdoor shower as one of life’s greatest luxuries. See 10 Favorites: Ultimate Outdoor Kitchens for more.

Above: See The Ultimate Indoor/Outdoor House? to explore the interior of the house just beyond the patio doors.
