Right now, the world is facing the largest wave of urban growth in history. However, the cities depend on nature’s ecosystem to function properly. In the future we must find new ways to integrate green structure into the cities more efficiently. The aim is to build dense, green and sustainable.
Grey to Green consists into a series of paving stones with integrated space for vegetation. With the help of design, the plants become an accepted element on the urban impervious floor, and will not be considered as weed. The series consists of four paving stones. Each tile has different amounts of perforation; from 1 to 8 spaces where vegetation is allowed to grow. As paving stones make up many of the cities’ impervious surfaces, the product can be very flexibly integrated on all paved surfaces in the city. The quantity of greenery on the paved urban floor can thereby easily be customized and increased without taking a lot of extra space.
