Lighting: Richard Scofield Historic Lighting

March 4, 2008

Located in Ivoryton, Connecticut, Richard Scofield Historic Lighting produces handmade period light fixtures. Each piece is hand-cut, sanded, painted, or stained based on authentic patterns from the 18th and 19th centuries; they also do custom work. Recently, the owners eliminated toxic chemicals from the design process and now achieve the patina of various finishes by using casein, which is derived from milk. They are also experimenting with vinegar and salt to age some pieces. View the range at scofieldhistoriclighting.com.

Below: Salem Lantern with original Restoration Glass and beeswax candle sleeves is $1204; available in oxidized copper (shown), bronze copper, raw copper, or distressed tin.
