Every year around this time, I promise myself I’m going to get a proper Christmas tree stand; one that will last a lifetime and that can (ideally) be folded up and stored year after year. Here are our favorite options out there right now.
Above: Danish company Skagerak makes a Christmas Tree Base from teak and brass-plated steel; €279 ($330) at Skagerak. Also available at Viesso ($329) and Decor Interiors ($349) in the US. Above: SMD Design’s Turboprop Christmas Tree Stand is made of powder-coated metal and also comes in white and gray; 1,229 SEK ($145 USD) at Scandinavian Design Center. Above: The powder-coated gray Christmas Tree Foot from Swedish company Ferm Living is €69 ($82). You can also find it at Mood and Truce in the UK. Above: The Root Christmas Tree Stand in lightweight aluminum is $294 at Royal Design. It also comes in shiny white, shiny black, and matte black. Above: The Skeppshult Cast Iron Star Christmas Tree Stand is available directly through Skeppshult, makers of cast iron cookware and other durable home goods. Above: The Christmas Tree Stand designed by Maria Haard for Design House Stockholm is available in white from Vålamagasinet for 1,295 SEK ($153 USD). Above: The no-nonsense Retro Tree Stand is handmade in Bear Lake, Michigan, by Floyd Bowling Jr. and Sr. since 1989. The T-bolts make securing the tree easy, and the tripod legs prevent wobbling on uneven floors. One happy customer wrote, “It belongs in the permanent collection at MoMA.” The model supports an eight-to-nine-foot tree and is $169 at Schoolhouse Electric & Co. Above: The Bruka Design Christmas Tree Star in white (also available in black) cast iron is 895 SEK ($106 USD) at Bruka Design. Above: Another style from Ferm Living, the Christmas Tree Foot in brass can be sourced at Finnish Design Shop for $68.90. Above: From Markslöjd, the Julle Tree Stand in black metal is available through Markslöjd or on Wayfair in the UK; £78.99 ($106). Above: Manufactum’s Brass Christmas Tree Stand is simple but solid; €525 ($618 USD). Above: The House Doctor Christmas Tree Stand in white is €50.90 ($60) at Fine Nordic. Above: The Cavenia Christmas Tree Stand; €149 ($176) at Lene Bjerre. N.B.: This post is an update; the original story ran on December 5, 2012.
