Whenever I’m near the Bowery in New York City, I find myself caught in the gravitational pull into the John Derian store on East 2nd Street and, inside, to the table of Penkridge porcelain fruit. I can never bring myself to buy them (too impractical), but if I were to, say, receive them as a gift (hint to husband reading this), I would gladly arrange and rearrange the porcelain peaches and pears to my heart’s content.
Here are five gifts for the botanical art (fruit included) lover in your life.
Above: The Felicity Jones Wild Garden Unglazed Round Vase is made from pressed flowers collected from Petersham Nurseries’ flower garden and placed into clay; £180 ($241 USD). Above: Penkridge Ceramics in Birmingham, England has been making porcelain fruit and vegetables since 1984. You can source the range of produce from John Derian in New York City and Sweet Bella online as well as directly from Penkridge Ceramics in the UK. Shown here are the red pomegranates. Above: The Rose Hip Glass Vase is fitting for the minimalist; £10 ($13 USD) at Petersham Nurseries. Above: Artist Christine Lewis’s Raindrops on Roses work is made of cotton rag paper sprinkled with flower petals from her cutting garden; £50 ($67 USD) for the work (frame not included). Above: Italian Carrera Marble Fruit is sculpted in Tuscany with marble from the same quarry Michelangelo used. The range of fruit is available at John Derian in New York City. You can also source vintage marble fruit on Etsy and cobble together your own set. For more botanical inspiration see our posts:
