Description from A Vida Portuguesa
Traditionally they come from the banks of the Guadiana the reeds that hands vigorous and knowledgable intertwine to make these baskets, more and more in the fashion. Of utilitarian object, indispensable in the day-to-day of the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo, the cane basket with lid passed the coveted accessory,
synonymous with style and originality. Jane Birkin was delighted with him and took him everywhere in the 60s and 70s. The Portuguese basket became his wallet – and for that reason they also call him “Birkin Basket”.
