  • Category : English Roses (English Rose Collection)
  • Bred By : David Austin
  • Flower Type : Double/Full Bloom
  • Hardiness : Very hardy
  • Fragrance : Medium
  • Repeating : Excellent

A charming rose with medium-sized, deeply cupped flowers, exposing a few stamens when fully open. They are a lovely, soft apricot-pink colour, fading on the outer petals to pale apricot. There is a pleasant fruity rose fragrance with hints of lemon. It has an exceptional ability to repeat flower. ‘The Shepherdess’ is a particularly healthy shrub with upright, bushy growth. This is a relatively small variety, ideal for the front of the border or for a more formal setting in a rose bed. It is particularly successful in a Mediterranean-type climate. Named after the shepherdess in Sir Philip Sidney’s The Arcadia, published in 1593.
