The best known and best loved of the Scillas is the Siberian Squill, S. siberica, and its variety “Alba” is an essential component of the early-spring garden. The pure white, beautifully formed bells hang in loose clusters. Superb for naturalizing in the lawn or in deciduous woods. Also useful for underplanting shrubs and trees such as Forsythias, Daphnes, and Magnolias. Bulbs are amazingly adaptable and self-sow in most situations, increasing their numbers and the gardener”s pleasure. Heirloom, 1880.
