Stiff+Trevillion are an award winning architectural practice established in the early 1980’s and based in West London.
The studio is design-led, not attempting to create a house style. We seek to find design solutions that are specific to the location, the surroundings and the aspirations of the client. We aim to create buildings and spaces that are intelligent, stylish and timeless.
Our work falls broadly into three categories, developer led commercial buildings and refurbishment, high end private residential, and bars and restaurants.
Our office structure reflects this mix with teams of architects and interior designers working on each of the three sectors. Our broad range of experience means that we can provide a complete design service from new build to interiors on a range of building type.
Today, Stiff+Trevillion is over thirty strong with four directors, four associate directors and two associates. Our work ranges in value from £50m to £500k.

Chepstow Crescent Hamilton Terrace – A Georgian townhouse has been remodelled and refurbished internally; and a new Pavilion has been constructed to the end of the long garden. Sitting beneath a large London Plane, the pavillion creates a small retreat for entertainment and relaxation in a tranquil garden setting. The Grove House: Extensive refurbishment and addition to a large family home in Ealing, an industrial aesthetic of concrete and steel coupled with luxury materials give this property a unique quality which fits the clients brief and lifestyle. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan The Old Vicarage: This project involved the conversion of a large detatched victorian vicarage into a family home. The clients aspirations to preserve the gothic character and history of the building twinned with the introduction of crisp modernist interiors was achieved with subtlety and attention to detail. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Notting Hill House (3): The narrow facade of this West London house hides an interior of rich volumes. Reconstructed behind a retained facade, the new generous floor to ceiling heights along with the introduction of sliding walls and glazed screens create a light and spacious family home. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Mayfly Cottage: A new build fishing house on the River Test in Hampshire. Traditional construction methods including green oak frame, hand made bricks, roof tiles and charred timber cladding were brought together to form a contemporary reinterpretation of a rural barn. The house sits in the grounds of a listed Manor House and is designed in context to reflect the hierarchy of the adjacent structures. Also picking up on the local vernacular of the hamlet at large. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Salvation Jane: Salvation Jane is a 65 seater restaurant and bar located in Shoreditch, London.Australian influences were key in this project, the name Salvation Jane comes from a flowering plant that was brought to Australia in the 1800’s by an English immigrant named Jane Patterson. The design palette was derived from the materiality of a typical Australian beach house and interpreted in a simple format to maintain the desired minimal independent aesthetic. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Jamie’s Italian – Cheltenham: The Magistrates Court in Cheltenham has been disused for many years, converting a Grade II listed building into a restaurant was a challenge. The spaces are dramatic and theatrical, and we were obliged to re use original benches and furniture. We developed a Scales of Justice wall lamp for this project, and special chandeliers in the stair and main courtroom. Photo: Kilian O’Sulivan Villandry: Stiff + Trevillion were asked to redesign this existing cafe after a change in ownership and have created a light, airy, French-inspired space. The new look has increased trade with all-day dining tailored specifically for shoppers. Villandry at Bicester Village opened in late 2011. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Innocent: Innocent moved into the whole of the Canal Building at Portobello Dock in April 2011. S+T won the job to design the fit out and rework the building to suit their brief. Key to the project was the removal of a significant part of the first floor to create a double height communal space which overlooks the canal basin and is the heart of the workspace. The office floors feature the ubiquitous grass carpet, and bespoke desking designed by Tom Dixon. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Portobello Dock – The Canal Building: Set within a masterplan by Stiff and Trevillion for Derwent London on a Grade II listed site of industrial history by the Grand Union Canal at Ladbroke Grove, The Canal Building completed in July 2008 has received the RBKC Conservation and Design Best New Building Award. Photo: Kilian O’Sullivan Phoenix Brewery: This former Victorian warehouse has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment, retaining the original character facade whilst providing light and spacious new office accommodation. A rather dull courtyard was filled in and an exciting double height reception space was created that serves the newly refurbished office suites suitable for media and other companies seeking unusual and inspiring office space.
