Handmade from buckthorn branches. Suede projectile pouch is affixed to natural latex tubing with waxed sinew. Made in Minnesota.
Buckthorn came from Europe in the 1800s to Minnesota, where it is an invasive species and has been declared by the state’s Department of Natural Resources to be a restricted noxious weed. Removal is an important job undertaken by local community service groups, and the trees are cut down to stumps and painted to prevent regrowth. The branches are reclaimed to make the slingshot.
