Outdoors: Rural Mailbox Roundup

August 3, 2009

Today’s Architect Visit: Dry Design in Los Angeles reminded me of how much I like the classic curbside rural mailbox.

Above: The mailbox pictured in today’s post is Steel City’s Galvanized Rural Mailbox, which, according to our sources, is no longer being produced (please prove us wrong). Following are some great alternatives.

Above: The classic GDM Newport Mailbox is available in nine colors; $89.99 from More Mailboxes.

Above: The Large Steel Rural Mailbox by Solar Group is a great buy; $31.43 at Amazon.

Above: Another good deal is the Classic #2 Rural Mailbox with a mail slot by Flambeau; $37.25 at More Mailboxes.

Above: Steel Mailbox Company’s Heavybilt Country Estate Mailboxes are available in nine colors (Caribbean blue is shown) and three sizes; $130 for the medium size through Steel Mailbox Company.

Above: We like the handle pull on the Antique Rural Mailbox shown in a nickel finish with all aluminum construction; $90 at Mailboxes.com.

Above: The ridiculously sturdy Stainless Steel Heavy Gauge Roadside Mailbox by Veeders comes with an equally hefty price tag of $649 ($389 in white or black) at Mailboxixchange.com; we like the sleek industrial look and feel.
